The 123,000 acre American Prairie Reserve south of Malta in northern Montana is an intact grass and sage steppe prairie ecosystem. There are 215 buffalo on the reserve with the numbers growing with spring calves. 71 pure bison calves from Canada were reintroduced into the buffalo herd on the American Prairie Reserve on March 8th, 2012.
